Lavender for Calming Relaxation
Lavender, scientifically known as Lavandula, is a flowering plant belonging to the mint family, Lamiaceae. It is renowned for its fragrant purple flowers and aromatic foliage. Lavender is native to the Mediterranean region, but it's now cultivated worldwide.
Our lavender comes in a 2"x3" wax paper bag with a weight of 0.52 ounces and was packaged with gloves. We recommend doing a skin test to make sure you are not allergic if you plan on using Lavender topically.
Ancient Use of Lavender:
The ancient Egyptians prized lavender for its aromatic qualities and used it in embalming rituals. The Greeks and Romans also revered lavender, using it in baths, as a perfume, and for its medicinal properties. Roman soldiers were known to perfume their clothes and baths with lavender that grew wild in the area. In medieval Europe, it was believed to ward off evil spirits and protect against disease. They would wash their laundry with lavender and the women who did the washing were called 'lavenders'. It was often hung in homes to purify the air and promote good health. Additionally, it was associated with love and romance, and young maidens would tuck sprigs of lavender into their clothing to attract suitors.
