May Day Flower Goddesses

May Day Flower Goddesses

One of the earliest celebrations of May Day can be traced back to ancient Rome, where the festival of Floralia was celebrated in honor of the goddess Flora, the patroness of flowers and spring. This festival was held from April 28th to May 3rd and involved the decoration of homes and public spaces with flowers and the wearing of floral wreaths.

May Day, also known as Beltane, is a traditional spring festival celebrated on May 1st. It is a time when we honor the goddesses of flowers, fertility, and the abundance of nature. Here are five flower goddesses you can honor on May Day:

Flora: Flora was the Roman goddess of flowers and spring. She was associated with the renewal of life and the blooming of flowers. You can honor Flora by decorating your home or garden with flowers, or by making a floral offering at an altar dedicated to her.

Hathor: Hathor is an Egyptian goddess associated with beauty, love, and fertility. She was often depicted with a headdress of cow horns and a sun disk, which symbolized her role as a life-giving force. You can honor Hathor by creating a beauty ritual with flowers, or by making an offering of milk or other dairy products.

Gaia: Gaia is connected with the natural world, and her energies can be used to honor and connect with the Earth, its cycles, and its rhythms. She is also associated with fertility, growth, and abundance, making her a fantastic deity to work with during Beltane. She is  nurturing and motherly figure, and working with her can help keep you grounded.
